Landscape Institute South East Branch

Martin HirdAbout us

Hello, and welcome.

On April 1st 2008 the boundaries of the Landscape Institute's local branches changed to fall in-line with regional government offices, and many other organisations. The new South East branch was born, with it’s membership being transferred from parts of what was the previous London and South East branch, the South West branch and the Midlands branch. The new branch covers the counties of Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, Hampshire, Surrey, West Sussex, East Sussex and Kent. Spread across that area are 813 Landscape Architects, making up the new branch membership.

The branch is in a fledgling state at the moment. At the time of the boundary change no branch members had stood forward for election to the branch committee. The Working Group that had overseen the boundary change continued guided the branch through it's first year in a 'caretaker' role - although without authority make decisions on behalf of the branch membership. However, the branch was represented at central LI level, and also to galvanize efforts to find branch members willing to form the core of a branch committee.

In May 2009, at the branch's second AGM, a full branch committee was formed. That committee will now set-about forming branch policy for the first time, and allocating funds to branch activities. However, at present the content of this website is minimal, as a reflection of the branch’s fledgeling state.

The new branch committee are always keen to know of branch members who want to get involved with branch activities in any capacity. There will always be room for more! If you are a branch member, you can help. We like to keep things light-hearted, but not only that, - it is a great opportunity to network, and raise your profile in the profession. If you would like information on branch Committee roles please get in touch using the link on the contacts page.
